How Much Does It Cost to Manufacture Leggings? What Sets the Price
There is no single price for a pair of custom leggings. Two quotes for “black high-waist leggings” can differ a lot, because the fabric, details, quantity and branding behind them are different. This guide explains what sets the price, so you can compare quotes and plan your budget.
- Fabric: usually the largest part of the cost.
- Construction: every pocket, panel and extra seam adds sewing time.
- Quantity: fixed costs are shared across your pieces, so unit prices fall as quantity rises.
- Colors: stock fabric colors cost less than custom-dyed colors.
- Branding and packaging: quoted line by line.
- Route: Cut & Sew from 200 pieces, seamless from 500 pieces per style and color.
What is included in a leggings FOB price?
Most factories in China quote FOB (free on board). An FOB price for leggings covers the fabric, cutting and sewing, trims, your logo and labels, packing, quality checks and delivery to the port in China.
It does not include international freight, insurance, import duties or taxes in your market. When you compare quotes, check that each one includes the same items, and ask for branding and packaging to be listed separately.
1. Fabric: the biggest cost driver
Fabric is usually the largest share of a legging’s cost, and the choice changes both price and feel. These are the fabrics we use most for custom leggings:
| Fabric | Typical use | Relative cost |
|---|---|---|
| 80% polyester / 20% spandex, 220 gsm | Printed and value-focused leggings | Lower |
| 78% nylon / 22% spandex, 220 gsm | Everyday training leggings | Medium |
| 75% nylon / 25% spandex, 220 gsm | Soft, second-skin yoga leggings | Medium |
| 70% nylon / 30% spandex, 220 gsm | Extra stretch, sculpting styles | Higher |
| GRS-certified recycled nylon or polyester | Sustainable collections | Higher |
Nylon blends feel softer and smoother than polyester blends and usually cost more. Brushed finishes, higher spandex content and recycled yarns also add cost. For squat-proof leggings, a dense fabric of around 220 gsm is a sensible baseline, and opacity is checked on the sample.
2. Construction and design details
A simple high-waist legging with an inside waistband pocket is the quickest to sew. Every extra detail adds cutting and sewing steps:
| Detail | Effect on cost |
|---|---|
| Side pockets or a phone pocket | Adds fabric, cutting and sewing time |
| Contrast panels or side stripes | More pieces to cut and match |
| Crossover or fold-over waistband | More complex waistband construction |
| Scrunch seam at the back | Extra sewing step |
| Flare leg | More fabric per piece |
| Gusset | Small extra cost, often worth it for comfort |

3. Quantity per style and color
Every bulk order carries fixed costs: buying and checking fabric, cutting, setting up the sewing line and quality checks. The more pieces share those costs, the lower the unit price. That is why factories quote price breaks by quantity.
Our MOQ is 200 pieces per style, per color for Cut & Sew and 500 pieces for seamless. Smaller custom orders are possible with a small-order surcharge. Our MOQ guide explains how quantities are counted.
4. Stock or custom colors
Choosing from available fabric colors keeps the price and MOQ at the standard level. A custom color matched to your Pantone reference is dyed specially for your order, which adds cost and can raise the MOQ.
5. Cut & Sew or seamless
Seamless leggings are knitted to shape on circular knitting machines. They need a knitting program and machine setup for each style, so they start from 500 pieces per style and color and suit larger runs. Cut & Sew leggings start from 200 pieces and give you a wider choice of fabrics, prints and details. The better value depends on your design and quantity, so it is worth asking for both routes when you are unsure.
6. Branding and packaging
Branding is easiest to compare when it is listed line by line. Each of these adds to the unit price:
- Logo method: heat transfer, silicone, reflective print or embroidery, plus the number of logo positions.
- Labels: printed or woven neck and care labels.
- Hangtags with your brand.
- Packaging: standard or custom printed polybags, zip bags or boxes.
- Amazon FBA prep: barcode and FBA labels.
See what can be customized on our private label service page.
7. Size range
Larger sizes use more fabric. Plus sizes up to 3XL are available for Cut & Sew leggings and can be priced separately from the core size range. Seamless leggings are made in S–XL.
8. Sampling cost
Before bulk production you approve a sample. Samples take 12–15 days and cost US$10–15 per style, and the sample fee is fully refunded once your bulk order reaches the MOQ. See our development process.
How to get an accurate leggings quote
The more of these you send, the more precise the first quote will be:
- Style reference: a tech pack, sketch, reference photo or one of our existing styles.
- Fabric: the composition and feel you want, or a fabric reference.
- Colors: stock colors or Pantone references.
- Quantities: pieces per color and your size split.
- Branding: logo method, size and position, labels and hangtags.
- Packaging: standard, custom or FBA-ready.
How to lower the cost without lowering quality
- Use fewer colors so each color reaches a higher quantity.
- Choose stock fabric colors instead of custom dyeing for your first order.
- Keep the details that matter, such as a waistband pocket, and drop the ones customers do not notice.
- Start from an existing style. Adding your logo to one of our current leggings has a lower MOQ and shorter development.
- Match the fabric to the use. A polyester-spandex blend can be the right choice for printed or value-focused lines.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to manufacture leggings?
The price per piece depends mainly on the fabric, the construction details, your quantity per style and color, and your branding and packaging. Send us your style and quantities and we reply with a detailed quote within 24 hours.
Are seamless leggings cheaper than cut and sew leggings?
It depends on the design and the quantity. Seamless leggings have higher setup costs and a 500-piece MOQ per style and color, so they suit larger runs. Cut & Sew leggings start from 200 pieces and allow more fabric and design options.
Do pockets and panels increase the price?
Yes. Each pocket, panel, stripe or extra seam adds cutting and sewing time, and some details need extra fabric or trims.
Is the logo included in the price?
Branding is quoted line by line. The logo method, number of logos, labels, hangtags and packaging are listed separately in your quote, so you can see what each one costs.
What is not included in an FOB price?
An FOB price covers the finished, packed garments delivered to the port in China. International freight, import duties and taxes in your market are not included.
Can I get a price before sampling?
Yes. We quote from your tech pack, reference photo or one of our existing styles. The price is confirmed once the sample is approved, because that is when fabric, details and branding are final.
